Of course, Naruto has great artwork and detail as well, but YYH is just a wonderful favorite of mine. ![]() YYH's themes are also more mature, and though the art is old, I like the detail they put into the main characters. The fighting style is imitative of DBZ, but at least you have people like Kurama and Hiei to save the day with creativity. YYH is one of the few anime where I love almost every character in the show. Not only are they more mysterious (Kurama and Hiei's pasts didn't get all that revealed until episodes 98 and on!), but they give off a cool sense. The characters are also much more interesting to me. Suzuki, who refers himself as the self-proclaimed the Beautiful Suzuki was the founder, owner and leader of Team Uraotogi. I like YYH primarily because some of the intelligence it brings (Chapter Black was very well done), humor that wasn't corny, and no big booming morals that weren't subtle in their own ways. Yoshihiro Tagashio’s 1990 manga became one of the foundations of shonen manga as we know it today alongside One. But when you sit down with the original story, you can’t help but wonder what Togashi could have come up with under more ideal circumstances. Back in 2020, Netflix announced their plans to bring Yu Yu Hakusho to live action. ![]() This explains why I had so much fun reading and writing fanfiction for it in the 2000s. I was sad that it was ending of course, but it was appropriate. Yu Yu Hakusho succeeds in its world building, fantasy system, and fun characters that are easy to root for.
